Advancing vertebrate genomics with long-read sequencing

(PI: Dr Ira Deveson, Centre for Population Genomics)

The recent emergence of long-read DNA sequencing technologies has enabled relatively simple, cheap and rapid assembly of near-complete genomes for diverse vertebrate species. We are collaborating with numerous teams across the country to generate reference genomes for diverse Australian vertebrates, including mammals, reptiles and fish. These are vital resources for future genetics and evolutionary biology research, and conservation efforts in these species.
