Somatic variation

(PI: Associate Professor Owen Siggs, Centre for Population Genomics)

Genetic variation is a key determinant of health, with thousands of inherited genetic variants associated with disease risk. But the inherited genome is not fixed, and we acquire vast numbers of somatic genetic variants as we age. With long-term funding from Snow Medical, we are studying the impact of somatic variants in diseases of inflammation and ageing using large population biobanks and unique patient cohorts, carefully phenotyped clinical samples, and gene-edited cells.
